Hotels near Transamerica Building

San Francisco is a city that is filled with famous landmarks. The tallest of the San Francisco landmarks is the Transamerica Building, also known as the Transamerica Pyramid. Built over a four-year span from 1969 to 1972, the Transamerica Building is located in the spot where the Montgomery Block, the first fireproof and earthquake proof building in San Francisco, once stood. The original design would have made the building the second-tallest building in the world once completed, but even in its reduced size it still towers over the rest of the San Francisco skyline. Transamerica has not had its headquarters in the building since 1999, but its distinctive shape still features prominently in the Transamerica logo. The building does not have an observation deck, but four cameras pointing in the directions of the compass display views on television monitors in the lobby, which visitors can control with joysticks.
